The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Kirk Speraw will be offered a Multi-Year extension!

Another solid UCF basketball season comes to a close as the Knights lose to Rice 53-51 in the second round of the C-USA tournament, on a shot by Morris Almond. The Knights now head to the off-season with priorities of a new contract for Kirk Speraw and some recruits to fill the shoes of Josh Peppers and Lavell Payne.

Rice senior guard Morris Almond has been named the Conference USA Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season, while UCF head coach Kirk Speraw has been named the league’s Coach of the Year, it was announced today in Memphis, site of the 2007 Conference USA Men’s Basketball Championship presented by Aëropostale.

UCF rode a hot Josh Peppers to it’s 15th Victory in 16 games at the UCF Arena this year, closing out the building in style. UCF will head to Memphis as the #2 Seed as C-USA sets up with:

#1 Memphis vs. #8 Marshall / #9 UAB
#4 Tulane vs. #5 Tulsa / #12 ECU

#2 UCF vs. #7 Rice / #10 UTEP

So when I got home from the hospital last night after splitting my forehead open (you guys will see the scar during Senior Night), I couldn’t do anything so I decided to summarize my UCF Arena History in honor of closing down the place after tonight’s game.

Saturday is Senior night, the final game in the UCF Arena. After nearly 140 UCF basketball games for the most veteran of Kirks Jerks, we’ll close out the building against ECU and send off three players. As an homage to Josh Peppers, the Band will be called the “Pep Band” at basketball games. Peppers plays his final home game after 4 years and two (so far) NCAA tournaments. A solid leader and fan favorite, Pep will be missed. Adam Gill also leaves after 4 years in the program, as he will graduate as a junior (eligibility-wise) this year. Adam has been a vital contributor, and while hampered by injuries, has made several key plays in big wins by UCF over the last few years. Lavell Payne, a 2-year player for UCF, has blossomed into our most valuable big man and dynamic dunker will play his last game in front of the UCF crowd. Thanks for the Memories, Adam, Lavell, and Josh!
